South Africa-bound

Today I fly from sunny Paris into the South African winter. First stop is Johannesburg where I will be speaking and attending Rooms on View.  I spotted some open spaces in my busy schedule for the week and hope to be able to go shopping at my favorite crafts dealer in Joburg before heading to Cape Town on the weekend for two Conde Nast House & Garden reader events. Do you have any ‘must-do’s’ to recommend for either Johannesburg or Cape Town?

I think I may be the only person on my flight NOT heading to South Africa to attend the World Cup (hoping to get out of there before the football craziness starts!). I promise to share some of both the French and African experiences with you as soon as I get back to New York on June 1st.

In Cape Town go and see Cecile and Boyds showroom..Boyd Ferguson is SA most famous interior decorator..and is a genius. Its in a house in Cape Town.
Also go to the Waterkant in CT.It has the best African craft shop..its chic and fascinating .
Make sure someone takes you to Somerset West near CT to see Vergelyken. The most beautiful Cape Dutch Houses.

Dear Vincente, I was at your presentation today at Rooms On View in Johannesburg. Have to say that of all the Guests of honour since the show started, you were the most open about how you work or the process. Thank you for that. I enjoyed your sense of humour (especially your comment about clients and their plants). You are brilliant and an amazing human being.

Nice discussion. Reminds me of the Football World Cup when my team didn’t do so well….( (England!)
