Inception

Last weekend I went to see Inception – I was prewarned that I could not blink or get distracted by the popcorn, that I had to follow the plot very carefully and I was able to decypher the whole movie. I thought the special effects were really amazing and I was surpised that some people felt like they had to see it twice to really understand what it was all about. I loved it – action, great plot and a fast pace.

Today I am dying to go see Stallone’s new movie. Yes! I want to see the ravaging effects of too much plastic surgery and too much steroids…But I think, from what others have said, that it’s a fun movie to see. What have you seen lately that is unmissable?

It’s a few months old but Shutter Island with Leo Dicaprio is a must see for anyone who likes a good mystery or just wants to look at Leo for a while. Oscar worthy in my opinion.

I saw Inception on Saturday and loved the architectural aspects, the concept of the dreams within dreams but hated the endless shooting…it was also too long.

I thought I had Inception figured out until I realized that when he had a reunion with his children they had not changed in age. How long was the separation? The film had as many layers as their dream states.
    The Expendables was a hoot.

So many movies, so little time!

I’ve only been to the movies a couple times this year, so my offerings are recent but not current. I think DiCaprio is a fine actor who has gained some gravitas with age and a few lines in his face that well suit his mature roles as in “Body of Lies” about the CIA in the middle east, and “Revolutionary Road” about a 1950s couple where one wants to play life by the book, and one wants adventure and risk.

I also love high-action, complex mysteries like “Memento” and little known cult film “The Draftsman’s Contract”. Right now I’m hooked on classic films which were often morality tales and stories of the heart. Recently I watched “The Philadelphia Story” with Kathryn Hepburn made in the 1940s and its remake as a musical in the 1950s “High Society” with Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Satchmo, which was about love lost and regained, and its importance as a prime element in our lives. Having married my first and fairest, my high school girlfriend eighteen years after we broke up, it’s a subject that resonates with me! – Gary
