Recipes

Pork loinThis has nothing to do with design, but it’s one of my loves: Cooking.

To buy a cookbook with hundreds of recipes becomes much more daunting, but the Wednesday NY Times food section for me is the perfect balance. It always has one or two recipes that give me an impetus to cook. Maybe it’s because there are only two or three recipes – not too much to think about? I find paging through a cookbook to be like shopping at Bloomingdales – there’s simply too much choice!

About three weeks ago the Times had this great recipe for pork loin stuffed with figs and another one with baby artichokes, tomatoes and olives, which I made over the weekend. Maybe I’m writing about this because it’s near lunchtime and I’m hungry, but I think the NY Times is a great place to get ideas for the weekend and I always try at least one when I’m in Montauk, experimenting on my guests.

Some never come back, but some ask for seconds.

and by the way, I believe that good cookery employs many of the same disciplines that embody good design, from choosing the right ingredients to knowing when to edit things out. Presentation is a key component as well, just as in design.

So you got it covered, comin’ and goin’!:-)

maybe because I’m reading this at lunch time PST, but wow, this looks delish. One of my favorite salads was from a recipe Anh duong had in the nytimes about 10 years ago. I pulled the page and have it on hand after all of these years.

Don’t you think cooking is design in its own way? We eat with our eyes first –just like we initially enjoy a room by the way it looks…then we decide if it has the right ingredients by digging in and finding out what it’s made of and if we need to change anything to suit our tastes.
Let us know if you attempt the pork loin- looks delicious!
