4th of July celebrations

Last weekend I came into the city from Montauk early on the 4th of July and had invited a group of friends to stand on my terrace and watch the fireworks. It almost felt as it was a private show,  it was so close. We had the TV playing the program with the music blaring, so we really felt like we were right there. I felt very patriotic.

This weekend I’m looking forward to just recovering from a cold I’ve been battling all week (in this heat it’s been disgusting!), gardening and just avoiding the heat. How did you celebrate the 4th?

Like you, avoiding the heat. And what’s worse, I think I have to go file a Missing Persons. I haven’t heard the ice cream man in weeks.

Did you cook? I made banana bread and realized in 104 degree heat the oven was out…so I put it on the grill. It came out perfectly.

We watched the fireworks from my husband’s 14th floor office, it too seemed like a private show, we seemed so close!! Unfortunately we did not escape the heat there, he didn’t know the building’s air was off; they didn’t expect people to be there so late on the 4th!!

This year I was in Norway visiting family which is always fun…my American father puts on his American flag suspenders and we fly the Norwegian and American flags together at the family bbq…the neighbors always wonder whats up!
