Veranda: July/August

veranda-coverSo excited about Veranda magazine publishing my apartment in the July/August issue!

But to be honest, it being published is not what I’m most excited about…what I’m really excited about are the photographs of my apartment that I took for this story.

Being an insecure individual I always feel that I won’t be good enough and that things won’t turn out right, but when you see these pictures you know that I could consider myself a decent interior photographer!

They’re in focus – which always surprises me – the lighting is right – which always surprises me – and the composition is also just right – another surprising factor!

I think you should go out and buy the new issue of Veranda and let me know what you think of it too.

Hello! I must first say I have loved your work for a very long time, so I am very happy to find this link to your blog! I am now anxiously awaiting my Veranda to see your featured apartment!
Would love a post on any and all tips for taking interior photos! With all of your experience having your rooms photographed and now with the ‘being’ the photographer I’m sure you could shed some light (bulbs;) on the subject!
    Thanks,
    joan

Wow, Vicente, gorgeous! I love that gilded bench with the curved side.

Are the floors ceramic tile? They look great. How many inches are the squares?

I will look forward to buying it! Congratulations Vicente!! I have to say that I continue to appreciate your modesty. I don’t know that it is justified but it is certainly refreshing.
    Best,
    Nathalie

    Hi Vicente,
I subscribe to Veranda and I received my copy last night and cannot put it down. I have a huge appreciation for designers, like you, whose style cannot be defined. Your apartment is impeccable.

If I had to describe your loft to someone, I would say it is like a symphony. Each piece of Furniture and art, a unique instrument, that work to create the most beautiful composition.

Thanks for some wonderul insight into how you live and an inspirational interior.
    Vitania

Hi Redbrickbuilding: The floors are painted – it’s epoxy over concrete.

Joan – I’m the wrong one to talk to because I have learnt by osmosis…but I really don’t know what I’m doing! I’ve learned to do it instinctually. You’re better off with a large-format camera. I know nothing about digital cameras, but if you’re using film, learn how to use a lightmeter so you can best balance the light in the space. If you’re using echtochrome film you cannot have artificial lighting in the room as it will turn the photos yellow. That only works with Tungstan film, which has now been discontinued.

I would suggest taking one setting and try to photograph it in all different ways, writing down what you changed in each setting, so you start to learn the process.

Your apartment is stunning! I love the juxtaposition of antique and modern, the gallery photos and my favorite element is that day bed turned couch! I’m inspired… and the photos are just as great as the decor!
    Cheers,
    Toma

Vincente – I’m crazy about your apartment. I bought the magazine today because of your images in it. Mainly, the hand. I had to check out your website and found your blog. Then, lo and behold I see Laura Novak mentioned. I just took a class from her in Atlanta. Small world. Congratulations on having such great talent. Hooray!
