I was delighted to see this story in the home section of the NY Times last Thursday on Dara Caponigro’s apartment for her parents in a new retirement home. Dara and her mom have proven that retirement villages need not be drab and dreary. This beautiful project is more proof of Dara’s incredible talent and great style.
For those who don’t yet know Dara, she’s the new Editor-in-Chief of Veranda magazine. Dara is a lady whose talent and great style in design has been admired within the industry for many years while she worked at House Beautiful, Elle Decor and as one of the founding editors at Domino. I’m lucky enough to also call her a friend.
I know we will be seeing great things in Veranda from her – I for one am expecting a really fresh, clean design point of view and cannot wait to see what she does with an already outstanding publication.

I subscribed to Veranda recently because I found myself buying more and more copies off the newsstands. I like its updated traditional ethos, but a bit more emphasis on modern would take the magazine from outstanding to off the charts. Dara’s design for her parent’s apartment is stunning and spacious. Is it usual for editors of design magazines to be designers themselves? It seems like a terrific plus! I also thought that her parent’s story was particularly touching, including their attachment to their city, history, architecture and design. – Gary
PS I got such a good laugh out of the paragraph on the Bridgehampton Antiques poster about Elizabeth and her lamp envy, that I posted it on my Facebook page for others enjoyment. Thanks!

Oh my God, I didn’t know Veranda was getting a new Editor-in-Chief, too. It would appear that all the magazines are playing musical editors these days. However, I’m absolutely thrilled for Dara as I love her style. I can hardly wait for her first issue!

Hi Vicente:
Veranda is my very favourite magazine. Looking forward to Dara’s “touch” and I agree with Gary, bit more modern would take this magazine from outstanding to off the charts.
I am a subscriber too and was a little apprehensive about it’s future, Now, I am filled with wondrous anticipation.
Thanks for the information.
