AD News

On Thursday night I heard about the decision to bring on board Margaret Russell as the new editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest and I am just so excited for her!

On one hand, to me Elle Decor is so ‘Margaret Russell’, her style permeates the magazine. From the first day we met when she was design editor 16 years ago, I have admired and respected her integrity, point of view and creative energy and now she’ll be bringing all this to AD.

Such a prestigious magazine. But one that needs a fresh infusion from someone who is in touch with the present and able to bring great American design to a magazine that has been sorely missing it. And I could think of no one better than Margaret to do all of this. Hopefully whoever picks up the reigns at Elle Decor will be able to carry on the legacy of Margaret Russell. (And now hopefully many of the great designers who were once banned from published in AD will be able to flood the pages with wonderful work.)

Congratulations Margaret! And congratulations AD!

I think Margaret will breathe new life into a magazine that most people found rather stuffy and exclusive. Elle seemed a little more “people friendly” (or the way most people actually live) under her reign, and hopefully she can bring that to AD

This is such great news! I’m definitely going to start reading AD again! She will be missed at Elle Decor, but this is great for the industry and for shelter mags.

I will be sad to see her leave Elle Decor…one of my top two favorite design mags…but I can’t wait to see what she does with AD!

    Much needed move at AD.

I, too, will be looking forward to seeing what happens at both magazines. Lots going on in the world of mags- print and online!

This will be very interesting and exciting to see a new and fresh perspective on a well respected publication that lost touch some where along the line… ~Terri

Great choice, she will revive AD and I will finally buy it again (I am very fond of Italian and German versions, so innovative and fresh, rarely buy stuffy American issues, so far…). As for Elle Decor I am sure it will continue along M. Russell path and A. Sarsidi will continue to be a supporting column for sure.

I used to call it Architectural Disgust. Thank heavens, it looks like my nickname is about to become obsolete. Since magazine issues are months in the planning and execution, I wonder how long before it truly reflects the direction she plans to take it. I’ll start peeking at it each month to see.

I read that her first issue will be the January 2011 issue. Can’t wait!
