Mr. Davis’ Bithday Party

Last night I went to what was said to be a very important birthday for Clive Davis. It was at the River Café in Brooklyn, and it was quite an extraordinary event. Among the guests were Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Alicia Keyes, Jennifer Hudson, Joan Rivers…around 75 of his closest friends and family were at the party.

It was certainly a glittery evening. Guests flew in from Europe, California and all over the world to celebrate Clive. He gave a lovely speech about what it means to have good friends and a loving family…a speech that touched everybody in the room.

The party started at 6:30 p.m. and was over at 11:30 p.m. so you know everybody had a really good time.

Dinner Party at My Home

I don’t know if you all know this, but I am computer-illiterate and not a full advocate of it, though I know it is needed. I had a dinner party two nights ago, and in planning my menu I went through my 45 cookbooks looking for a recipe for filet mignon…but I wasn’t able to find one (even if there was one somewhere). I sat down with Matthew, and he was able to quickly Google seven recipes with six different sauces, and a recipe for snap peas – which made the menu a snap! The meal turned out wonderfully. Here’s a picture of the table setting.

When I have one of my very rare dinner parties I like to really mix people who may have something in common but are not friends – it is always good to have someone sitting at either side of you, who have similar interests (and always split the couples). Also, be very free with the liquor.

Looking Forward To…

I am off to France in a few weeks. First I will head into Paris and hit up a few flea markets and hopefully catch some new shows. A good friend of mine, Tim Corrigan has this wonderful chateau and has been generous enough to invite 16 of his friends for a long weekend. I have been there once before and it is quite an extraordinary place, with incredible gardens, which I will try to get a few shots to show you. The chateau was featured in Architectural Digest and I heard that it will be in Veranda as well. Tim is the only person I know that can take a grand chateau and make it feel homey, I cannot wait to get there!
Believe me these invites don’t happen often in my life so I am very excited about this trip to France.

Mr. Nene

I am sad to say that Mr. Nene passed away last Sunday. It’s hard to believe that one can get so much support and pleasure from such a little creature. For example, his social graces like welcoming a new guest at the door and walking them out when they left. Even on his last day at home, when I had people over for dinner he got up off his pillow where he was resting to walk my guests out the door. I will miss him as I would miss a best friend. I keep looking for him in the apartment and waiting for him to meow from inside front door when I put the key in the lock to get in. I miss the games he played under the sheets, how he followed me from room to room, and just hanging out with me and my friends. Goodbye friend.

Mr. Clive Davis

I have had the privilege to work with Mr. Clive Davis for approximately 10 years now. Aside from being a visionary in the music world, he is a gentleman of the very first kind. His generous spirit makes him a unique individual and I don’t say that lightly. On Wednesday at NYU’s Commencement held at Yankee Stadium, Clive was given an honorary doctorate and I was lucky enough to be invited. It was truly a touching experience. Clive and the other honorees were led onto the field by the NYU Marching band and when Bill Clinton came out and gave the commencement speech all the students went nuts, it was like he was a rock star!

That evening Clive had a party at The River Café in Brooklyn which has the best views of the city; it was an amazing crowd consisting of 40 of his closest friends and family. All in all it was a wonderful day and experience.
