Hi Vicente,
I have all your books–love them!
Have noticed several glossy, shiny ceilings, a look I also love. What is your reasoning for that technique?
Thanks
Vicente Responds:
Dear Kathy-
First and foremost I like them, secondly because it helps reflect natural light and lastly it makes the ceiling feel taller which makes the room feel more open. There is a lot of prep work that goes into this job, you need to compound and sand then compound and sand some more. The goal is to get the ceiling as smooth as glass.

I have often admired your work, both in book form and in magazine, but wonder if the people coming to you shed everything they own, and then buy all new from you. It appears so much “of your style” that I’m curious if you ever have to work with a bunch of stuff you would rather not. Do you ever repaint, redo, or do you advise that in the end it would be best to buy the pieces that would be the most appropriate?

Vicente,
Would you care to share your technique to achieve smooth glossy ceilings? I am so in love with that look.
Thanks.
