Ask Vicente: Mixing Photos & Art

Question:

Name: Linda Goldspink
City: Toronto
Country: Canada

Dear Mr. Wolf,

I have been following your designs since you were a partner with Bob Patino: memory flashes–you are wearing a shirt with one side of the collar black, the other white; an apartment all done in gray, very stripped down, a red chair in the bedroom, the first appearance of the mirror propped against the wall; chairs in your apartment with “pockets” on the sides.
Vicente's BedroomQuestion: would you mix paintings and photographs in a wall arrangement? in the same room?
Thank you. L

Vicente responds:

Hi Linda – That is a flashback in time if I ever thought of one!

Thanks for the question – it really depends on the paintings and the photographs – maybe it’s because of my preference, but I think things like that work better on a picture ledge, so it has a less structured look to it.

Hello Vicente! (I think I do remember a time way back when, that your first name was spelled Vincent?) I had a shop then near the D&D that your firm then would visit regularly.
Please forgive me if my memory is inaccurate, it was back when you were partners with Bob, wow, that seems like ages ago, no? Anyway, your work has been consistently first rate, inventive, razor sharp, flirtatious and fun but most importantly, dead on appropriate. This is the first time I actually by accident came upon this blog and was utterly delighted. Your commentary is refreshingly candid, much appreciated. Please continue sharing, travelling, observing, capturing, explaining, describing, revealing, the extraordinary world around us. You restore my faith in this many times frustratingly bizarre and cruel world, exposing the true beauty and brilliance of everyday life, elevating it through your vision into the sublime. Many thanks!
    G.Lambert

People often spell my name Vincent, but I’ve always been Vicente – spelled the Cuban way.
