Inspiration

Francis BaconMy creative inspiration has always come from travel – seeing and experiencing new things in far-off countries awaken my creative thinking process and awakes my imagination. But when I’m not traveling, I draw inspiration from looking at artwork and paintings – whether impressionist or some contemporary artists. A few weeks ago, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a new retrospective on Francis Bacon opened. He’s one of the people whose color range and juxtaposition of tones have always been an inspiration to me. I guess it’s a contrast between harsh images and delicate coloration that has always appealed to me. How he plays one color against the other has always moved me and gotten me thinking how I could interpret that in my own work. Which artist inspires you and why? Or do you find your color inspiration in other places?

First, I’d just like to say I’m so glad I discovered your blog!!! I love your aesthetic and, as a big traveler myself, the influence far off places and new cultures have on your work!

Currently I’m finding my color inspiration from Scandinavian design. It would make sense that a place with typically grey weather would brighten things up with lots of neutrals, whites, and muted palettes. I can’t seem to get enough of Skona Hem these days and find myself dreaming of an all white interior.

    Me too!

My inspiration, currently is Rothko…. love the sultry, moody colours….

Then – absolutely anything from London would inspire me…. a London red bus, grey skies, the Thames, Big Ben….

I’m currently guest blogger at Decorati and am writing about my time in London – all the memories are really inspiring me! Check my three articles under the Guest Blogger tab.

i loved that show too. His Oranges blew my mind. I was also interested to watch how his color palate changed with the decades and color trends. He was definitely a man with his eyes open, submerged in his surroundings.
I could have looked at that Trinity at the beginning of the show for hours.

I’m so glad to find your blog. I’m a silent admirer of your designs. With respect to your ‘inspiration’ blog, I would say my inspirations come from cultures and history. I love the art pieces that have story behind them or some sort of importance. Well, I also get get inspired by any beautiful thing that reminds me of India!!!
